Travels Unraveled

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness.

~ Mark Twain

Once in a while it hits people that they don’t have to experience the world the way they’ve been told ~ from the movie Adopt a Highway.

I named this blog Travels Unraveled for a couple of reasons. First I am a weaver and and in my experience of creating most of my woven pieces there is almost always at least one flaw, some structural, others visual and some inperceivable. These flaws come from a break in the materials used in the weaving , usually a beak in the warp or a mistake on my part. With breaks I repair the warp and continue on. If it’s a mistake I’ve made, these do happen no matter how carefully I plan, how thoroughly I follow the pattern or how intently I weave; I have to decide if the mistake can be fixed or if it becomes woven into the character of the fabric. Just like in weaving, travel is made up of all the planning, the doing it and then sometimes it just unravels! No matter if travel goes as planned or unravels it creates the character of the journey.

The second reason for the name is because my husband and I are setting out for an extended travel experience. We are not who I think of as typical travelers of this type, which is young and untethered by life’s happening or retired. I want to share what our experience has been in planning for our travel and what’s happening day-to-day on our journey. I will share both practical and the touchy-feely side of things so unraveling those things we did to make this happen as well as sharing a few tips to incorporate into your own travel.

So follow along to see what we are up to or find out what’s unraveling next.
